Welcome to the HTC Uniform Section
Wearing a uniform helps to give all students a sense of belonging. It encourages the development of a proper pride in the College. A further practical advantage is that it avoids any competition in dress, which can lead to situations which are as expensive to parents as they are trying to the College. Governors have re-affirmed the requirement of a uniform at Horndean Technology College.
Hampshire County Council supports the wearing of uniform, and is anxious to help parents of limited means who may find it difficult to afford the cost of the necessary garments. Grants may be made in accordance with parents' income and all applications to the South East Hampshire Divisional Education Office, River Way, Havant PO9 2EL, telephone 023 9249 8200 will be confidentially considered. Further grants may be made at a later stage.

A craft apron should be worn for Design and Technology etc., to protect the wearers’ other clothing. The apron should be made of any plain white or grey coarse linen material and should resemble a butcher's apron but without pockets.
Parents who seek admission for their children are assumed to be fully aware of the College's requirements on uniform, and to be fully supportive of them.

| All clothing and equipment must be marked with the Students Name. |

| All students should wear the Blue College outer Sweatshirt and the White College Polo Shirt. Sweaters/Sweatshirts, other than the College uniform, are not acceptable and should not be worn. |
| Jewellery |
| The wearing of jewellery in College can cause many problems, so we have adopted the following code of practice: |
| A maximum of one small, plain stud in each earlobe. Earring/hoops, spacers, necklaces, bracelets, nose/tongue/eyebrow and other body studs, rings, bar-bells, etc. are inappropriate for College and are unacceptable; confiscation or removal will be required. Do not attend College at any time with freshly pierced body parts that undermine these expectations. |
| In very exceptional circumstances, a student may apply for a ‘jewellery pass’ in order to wear one ring of specified design and specific sentimental value. Applications should be made in writing to the Year Leader. |
| Hair Colour / Style |
| Excessive styles that draw attention to the individual, bright, non-natural hair colours, or highlights, patterns shaved into hair, beaded dreadlocks and braids are not appropriate for College. Hair bands or clips must be of a neutral colour and not of an excessive size. |
| Make-up / Nail Varnish |
| Make-up is not considered appropriate whilst at College and the wearing of nail varnish or fake nails is not permitted. Students will be asked to remove anything considered inappropriate. |
| Girls' Uniform |
| Skirt |
Black, standard style, not too tight; appropriate for everyday College wear, i.e. not too short. The hem should be no more than 5cm above the knee in length, when kneeling. |
| Trousers |
Black only. No culottes, cropped, cut-leg or ¾ length trousers, cords, jeans or ski-pants/leggings. Girls may wear trousers at all times of the year. The style should be simple and classic and should not be skin-tight. Belts should be small, plain, black and simple/appropriate. They should not be worn as a fashion accessory. |

| Coat |
Dark colours, warm and waterproof preferred. “Hoodies”, track suit tops and items with large logos, pictures, motifs, lettering, etc. are not acceptable. For examples of appropriate coats please click here. |
| Hats |
Hats are only to be worn on the way to and from College. |
| Shoes |
Black soles and uppers, comfortable “school type” – no trainers. All students have lessons in labs and workshops and are constantly going up and down stairs, therefore open-toed shoes, sling-backs and backless shoes are inappropriate and must not be worn. Shoes must have hard uppers (i.e. not canvas). Also, heels should be no more than 4cm high. Trainers or other footwear are not permissible unless accompanied by a note from the Doctor for a medical condition or from a parent in an emergency. Boots are unacceptable, as are shoes unlaced/unfastened. Stiletto heels are prohibited by County Council regulations. For examples of appropriate footwear please click here. |

Plain black full length classic style. No cropped, cut-leg or 3/4 length trousers, cords, chinos, jeans or skin-tight trousers. Trousers must be worn to conceal underwear. Belts should be small, plain, black and simple/appropriate. |

The underlying theme is that students should travel to and from College in a fashion that does not devalue the uniform, or the esteem of the College. Students are required to present themselves in appropriate dress within College at all times.
Failure to comply with uniform expectations will be challenged and dealt with appropriately. This may involve:
- withdrawal from every-day College activities.
- non-inclusion in College.
Students who persist in failing to comply with uniform regulations will not be accepted on site.
