At HTC, we follow the Edexcel syllabus Geography B - Evolving Planet. You will be taught by specialist teachers and you will have 6 lessons a fortnight.
In 2007, 75.5% of our students gained an A* to C Grade. These results placed us 3rd out of 71 geography departments in Hampshire.
This course is modular, which means that you can sit 'small chunks' of the course and bank your success. The course is divided into 4 main areas, which are -
- Dynamic Planet
- People and the Planet
- Making Geographical Decisions
- Researching Geography
"Researching Geography" is an internally assessed unit under controlled conditions based on 1 days fieldwork. This is worth 25% of the GCSE.
"Making Geographical Decisions" is a 1 hour exam based on pre-released resources. We will have lesson time to prepare for the exam and the paper will ask you to make a decision and justify it. It is your ideas that count!
The final two units - "Dynamic Planet" and "People and the Planet", are also 1 hour exams which you can sit in January or June of Year 10 or 11.
We want your Geography course to be relevant to you and about the ever changing world that you live in. We want the units to prepare you for the 21st century world and allow you to ask questions about the things you see around you. This course is modern and tackles the issues that you care about - How will Global Warming affect you? Is immigration good for our area? Are natural disasters happening more? And what are the impacts? Will there be enough fuel to run our cars in the future? Why has the cost of food gone up - and what can we do about it? Can we go on using the planet like this?
